Loctite 5900 (full name: Loctite SI 5900 – Silicone Gasket Maker, Black) is a single-component RTV silicone adhesive, specialized in creating elastic gaskets, tight seals, oil and water resistance, commonly used in automotive and mechanical industries.
🔹 Main information
Form: RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) silicone adhesive.
Color: Black.
Mechanism: curing by air moisture.
Properties:
Non-corrosive (sensor-safe).
High adhesion, good elasticity, vibration resistance.
Anti-leakage of oil, water, coolant.
Working temperature: from -55 °C to +200 °C (short-term up to 250 °C).
🔹 Application
Replaces traditional cutting gaskets (gasket maker).
For metal and aluminum surfaces in engines, gearboxes, and engine cases:
Valve cover.
Gearbox cover.
Oil pan.
Water pump, flexible flanges.
Especially suitable for surfaces with small gaps and requiring high tightness.
🔹 Instructions for use
Surface preparation
Clean grease, dirt, old glue.
The surface must be dry.
Construction
Cut the nozzle, attach the nozzle, and inject glue into a continuous line around the edge of the surface.
Surround the bolt hole to prevent leakage.
Assembly
Assemble the 2 flanges immediately after injecting glue.
Tighten the bolts to the specified technical force.
Curing
The glue begins to form a film after about 15–20 minutes.
Completely cured after 24 hours.
🔹 Advantages
Good elasticity, no cracking when subjected to vibration.
Good resistance to oil, water, coolant.
Sensor-safe, safe for use in engines with oxygen sensors.
Creates a durable gasket layer, replaces traditional gaskets, saves costs.
🔹 Disadvantages
Not as heat-resistant as Loctite 596 (red, ~315 °C) or 598 (black high-temp, ~260 °C).
Requires 24 hours to achieve complete sealing.
