Loctite 596 (full name: Loctite SI 596 – Superflex Red RTV High-Temp Silicone) is a one-component, room-temperature (RTV) silicone adhesive, used for sealing and creating high-temperature resistant gaskets.
🔹 Main information
Form: RTV silicone adhesive (1 component, self-curing by moisture).
Color: Red.
Heat resistance: from -54 °C to +315 °C (short-term up to 350 °C).
Properties:
High elasticity, no shrinkage.
Resistant to oil, water, mild solvents.
Vibration resistance, no cracking when temperature changes.
🔹 Applications
Automotive industry: valve cover, manifold, water pump housing, oil pan, gearbox, differential.
Industry: sealing boilers, chimneys, heat-resistant equipment.
Mechanical processing: replacing paper and rubber gaskets when tight and heat-resistant is required.
🔹 Instructions for use
Surface preparation
Clean oil, grease, dirt, rust.
Ensure the surface is dry.
Construction
Cut the nozzle, install the nozzle, and pump a continuous line of glue.
Apply glue around the flange or part to be sealed.
Assemble immediately after pumping the glue, tighten the bolt with the correct force.
Curing
The glue begins to form a film in about 20 minutes.
Fully cured after 24 hours (depending on thickness, temperature, humidity).
🔹 Advantages
Higher heat resistance than Loctite 598 (for harsher environments).
Good adhesion to metal.
Replace gaskets effectively, saving time.
🔹 Disadvantages
Acetoxy form → when cured, emits vinegar smell (acetic acid), can slightly corrode sensitive surfaces.
Not recommended for pure oxygen systems.
Requires 24 hours to reach maximum strength.
